What Is Moissanite?

Often known as the “gemstone from the stars,” moissanite is a gemstone made from silicon carbide.

It was first discovered in 1893 by French chemist Henri Moissan in rock samples from a meteor crater. Because natural moissanite is incredibly rare, the moissanite used in fine jewellery today is expertly created in laboratories, ensuring exceptional quality and consistency.

What Makes Moissanite Special?

Exceptional Brilliance

Moissanite has one of the highest refractive indexes of any gemstone used in jewellery, creating remarkable sparkle and flashes of rainbow light known as "fire." Many people notice that Moissanite appears even more vibrant than traditional diamonds under certain lighting conditions.

Made for Everyday Wear

Ranking 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, Moissanite is one of the hardest gemstones available, making it highly resistant to scratches and ideal for everyday jewellery.

Long-lasting beauty

Moissanite retains its brilliance over time and does not naturally become cloudy or lose its sparkle. With proper care and regular cleaning, it remains beautiful for years to come.

Affordability
Moissanite offers exceptional brilliance at a more accessible price than diamonds, allowing you to choose a larger carat size or a more elaborate design while staying within your budget.

How to Care for Your Moissanite Jewellery

Clean Regularly

Daily wear can leave behind oils, lotions, sunscreen, and skincare products that reduce your jewellery's sparkle. Clean your Moissanite regularly using Eclat By Oui's Jewellery Foam Cleanser or warm water with a mild dish soap. Gently brush around the stone and setting with a soft-bristled brush, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Remove During High-Impact Activities

Although Moissanite is exceptionally durable, we recommend removing your jewellery before activities such as weightlifting, contact sports, gardening, or moving heavy objects to help protect both the gemstone and its setting.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

To preserve the beauty of your jewellery, remove it before using bleach, chlorine, or other harsh household cleaning products, as these may affect the metal and its finish over time.

Store It Properly

When not being worn, store your jewellery in a soft pouch or jewellery box to minimise scratches and prevent pieces from rubbing against one another.

Check Your Setting

If you wear your jewellery daily, we recommend having the setting inspected periodically to ensure your gemstone remains secure. A quick check can help keep your favourite pieces looking and performing their best for years to come.
